Dow-na-Shoor is a group exhibition curated by Ben McBrien of Farmhaus. The name is an homage to the song “Jersey Girl” spoken in the hoagie mouth dialect of Kensington, Philadelphia where Ben has left his woodshop behind for a summer by the sea. He’s gathered a small army of artist/artisan friends to visually support his furniture, and adorn the walls of the gallery, to make his work appear better by association. Objects of painting, photography, printing, digital art, sculpture and cutlery all meld into a cohesive showcase of artworks that draw the viewer into an ocean realm within Parlor Gallery in Asbury Park, NJ. With unique custom frames tailored specifically for each individual piece of artwork by Ben, there is a communal and collaborative feel to the collection; A sense that the artists are all aboard the friendship. Like “the Boss” says, Dow-na-shoor everything’s alright.

Brutal Stumps
Burnt Fallen Maple + Burnt Pine Legs
Approx. 30” diameter 24” hi
These maple stumps were found roadside in Monmouth co. NJ while driving home from Surfing in Sandy Hook. Air dried in my Kensington shop for 5 years then hand carved (wit power tools) before Shou Sougi Ban, the Japanese practice of burning as a means of preserving the wood to the elements.

Reclaimed Water Tank Redwood top + Salvaged Soapstone + Burnt Pine base
The tabletop started its life as the tallest tree in the forest, Sequoia, then spent a few decades as a rooftop water tank over a city before being reclaimed to make a staircase… these are the offcuts from that project.
